Biomac® C is a coir fibre erosion control blanket used for temporary soil erosion protection and to aid in the re-establishing of vegetation in landscaping applications. Also known as Rolled Erosion Control Protection (RECPs) mats, they provide immediate protection to vulnerable slopes to the effects of erosion such as wind, rain and surface run-off. Placed onto top-soiled and seeded slopes, Biomac supports the establishment of vegetation. As the mat biodegrades over time, the protection function is maintained by the vegetation.

Biomac C is made from 100% coconut (coir) fibre and is covered on the top and bottom with with a jute mesh, which is stitched together to create an even mat that is also 100% biodegradable. It is supplied in different grades for erosion protection and soil stabilisation projects, depending on the slope gradient, rainfall intensity and application.

WHY CHOOSE BIOMAC C?

  • Ideal for short-term protection in the establishment of vegetation on steep slopes and embankments up to 1:1, areas exposed to high rainfall and ditches and watercourses with low energy flows
  • Provides initial erosion protection to seed and young plants from extreme rain, wind and sun during the critical germination and development stage
  • Provides moisture retention to soil
  • Offers soil and root insulation to temperature extremes
  • Biodegradable with an expected design life of around 36 months in normal conditions

Biomac C300 is ideal for re-establishment of steep slopes on road embankments as well as for overland flow channels and grass spillways. Where a higher level of protection is required or where the application is on steeper slopes (>2:1), then Biomac CJ450 is recommended.

Installation

Biomac C is laid on prepared slopes which are normally pre seeded. Biomac C can also be used on slopes which are planted out. Steel staples or Biopegs are used to hold down Biomac C and maintain good intimate contact with the soil.
